Practical tips for storing winter clothes and welcoming spring
With the arrival of warmer weather, there are small gestures that transform the home and also the way we live in it. One of them is the changeover from a winter wardrobe to a spring one. More than a household task, it is an opportunity to bring order, gain space, and begin the new season with a real sense of lightness.
The first piece of advice is simple: do not try to do everything in a rush. Set aside a calm morning or afternoon and approach the wardrobe change as a small reset for the home. Take out all your winter clothes, go through them calmly, and separate what you have actually worn from what has been taking up space for several seasons without adding any value. Spring also invites us to let go.
Before storing coats, thick sweaters, scarves, or wool garments, make sure everything is clean. Storing unwashed clothes can cause some stains to set, unpleasant smells to appear, or the clothes to be in poor condition when you use them again. Once everything is ready, use boxes, breathable covers, or storage bags, and label each category to make the next seasonal change easier.
The second key step is to take advantage of this moment to reorganize the wardrobe in a more practical way. Keep in sight the clothes you are most likely to wear in spring: light shirts, thin jackets, comfortable trousers, dresses, mid-season clothing, and versatile basics. Ideally, your wardrobe should work in your favor and help you make decisions more quickly in your day-to-day life.
It is also a good time to check hangers, drawers, and accessories. Sometimes we do not need more space, just a better layout. Organizing by type of garment, color, or frequency of use can make a big difference and make the wardrobe more visual and functional.
In Menorca, you will find 48 Cáritas containers distributed across all the municipalities on the island where you can leave clothes you no longer use. These containers have brought textile reuse closer to the population and, at the same time, have helped strengthen the clothing workshop, achieving the social, employment, and environmental goals that Cáritas pursues in order to support people who are in more vulnerable situations.
And there is something else: changing your wardrobe does not only organize your clothes, it also organizes your mind. It connects us with a new season, with new plans, and with a home that is more ready to be enjoyed.
At Som Menorca, we believe in those small details that make a home feel more lived in, more cared for, and more yours.
